Another 'Halley-Bob' Page!
1995 September 25: Hale-Bopp inbound but still far out in
the cold beyond the orbit of Jupiter, tiny and all but lost among
the stars of the summer Milky Way. Photographed with a
5-inch AP refractor from Mescalero Sands, New Mexico. (111k)
1997, March 7: Through the same telescope on a beautiful
crisp morning 18 months later.
1997, March 17: The comet in the dawn, courtesy of an old
Unitron equatorial.
1997, March 23-24: The comet in the west; the eclipsed Moon.
Jessica Macbeth also photographed this pairing from
Out West where the circumstances were more
dramatic.
1997, March 26-27: University Night on the Mountain. Hale-Bopp
between twilight and the rising of the Moon. Three views:
55mm lens (60k);
135mm lens (145k);
5-inch refractor (260k).
1997, March 29-30: From the Holston River Valley. My best,
deepest, most detailed image of the comet is in here.
1997, March 31 - April 1: Perihelion day. "The neighbors
had a party on their porch..."
1997, April 9: The Moon returns to the evening sky.
