A Visit to a Small Planet: 3434 Hurless
In 1998, on the weekend of October 17, a group of friends gathered on
George Kelley's farm near Glade Spring, Virginia, to try to see an
asteroid named for variable star observer Carolyn Hurless. A
string of perfect days and nights
accommodated us. Above is our trophy: a sketch of a dim starfield
in the constellation Cetus. Paul Sventek and I each prepared one
of these after carefully examining the area through my 16-inch
Dobsonian. The arrow indicates Carolyn's planet. The links
below explain why we are sure of this.
