Virginia by Day
Autumn colors and morning undercast characterize October in the
mountains of Virginia. Deep blue skies by day promise black nights
of exceptional transparency. For those of you more into sightseeing
by day than sightseeing by night, here are some pictures made on
the morning of the day the asteroid quest got into full swing.
As is so often the case with the astronomical images in these pages,
the first image is a detail from the second. Both photographs
look down from the Blue Ridge Parkway near Roanoke on the Great
Valley of Virginia.
Amy and I came to George's farm from a microvacation at The Otters'
Den, a B&B in a 200-year-old chestnut log house near the Peaks of
Otter.
