Seeking Amalthea

E is for Europa. G is for Ganymede. The bright blob is Jupiter. Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, and Io are the four Galillean satellites of Jupiter, discovered when Galilleo first pointed one of the first telescopes at Jupiter. The cross-hair marks Amalthea, a tiny satellite of Jupiter discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard visually --eye to the telescope-- and is the last satellite of the solar system to be found without photography or spacecraft.
