Portage Lake

On the Kenai Penninsula of southern Alaska there's this lake where glaciers once dumped icebergs straight into ice-choked water. I waited and I waited while the sky cleared and clouded over, cleared and clouded over again. Much seemed promised, but nothing particularly dramatic happened.

Then all at once, the sky fell and these storm clouds tumbled over the mountains into the valley of Portage glacier. A few minutes later, all was rain and fog. But for just these few seconds... magic!
