The youngest moons are like the grimace of the Cheshire Cat: the moon has vanished and left only its smile behind. This is the moon only 30 hours old. Dull and dim, low and murky -- the easiest way to find young moons is when they occur close to bright planets. At upper right, Mercury pointed out this moon. I noticed this conjunction on a computer running "SkyGlobe" and rushed outside to photograph it with zero minutes warning. A 300mm lens and Fuji Velvia did the trick.

Slightly older moons offer other treasures.
