The youngest moons are like the grimace of the Cheshire Cat: the moon
has vanished and left only its smile behind. This is the moon only
30 hours old. Dull and dim, low and murky -- the easiest way to find
young moons is when they occur close to bright planets. At upper
right, Mercury pointed out this moon. I noticed this conjunction on
a computer running "SkyGlobe" and rushed outside to photograph it
with zero minutes warning. A 300mm lens and Fuji Velvia did the
trick.
Slightly older moons offer other treasures.
